The LORD will fight for you, and you need only to be still.
- Exodus 14:14
The Israelites endured being slaves in the land of Egypt for hundreds of years. However, God had a plan to deliver them from bondage, and raised up Moses to lead them out of captivity and into the land he desired to give them. However, soon after they left Egypt, Pharaoh changed his mind about letting the Israelites go and began to pursue them with 600 chosen chariots.
The Israelites saw Egyptians pursuing and began to fear and complain, saying they would have been better off if they had stayed as slaves in Egypt. They were so quick to forget the power of the Almighty God that had just deliver them and that it was His hand leading them. They became fearful, not trusting that God would take care of them.
Does this sound like anything you have experienced? One minute, our hope and joy can be set on the power of Christ and the next, a difficult circumstance can sweep us away into doubting God's plan and that His Word is true. We then consider if we actually know what would be better for us.
In the midst of facing possible death from the Egyptians, God told the Israelites, “I will fight for you, you need only to be still. I translate this to mean, trust God and relax. God has it under control. God is fighting for us!
Join me today in being still, resting on God's promises, and allowing Him to fight on our behalf. We need not fear. God is in control!
